Rizinusöl (Glyceryltriricinoleat) kann an der Esterbindung alkoholisiert und an der Hydroxylgruppe verestert werden. Die Alkylester, insbesondere diejenigen, bei denen die Hydroxylgruppe durch eine Acetoxygruppe ersetzt wurde, sind Weichmacher für viele natürliche und synthetische Harze und Elastomere, einschließlich Polyvinylchlorid-, Nitrocellulose-, Ethylcellulose- und Kautschukpolymere.
